5 Quick Tips for Balancing School and Family

Having a family can make the idea of going back to school seem impossible. There are many ways to make it work though! Here at the Pediatric Dental Assisting School, you will be able to spend time with your family while studying to have a great new career!

How To Strike That Balance

1. Stay Close.

Graduates from our school have an opportunity to work at many different dental offices. This makes living close to your permanent job much easier. Your commute shouldn’t take away from your time with family.

I know a lot of pediatric dentists in the area, so I can help you find a practice that is nearby. Being close also means that you will be more available when you are unexpectedly needed – for instance, if your child gets sick at school.

2. Set Goals.Pediatric Dental Assistant SchoolGoals

If you work full-time and have a family, you might not be able to handle a full-time school load on top of that. That’s okay! Set realistic goals that you can actually accomplish.

At my school, you will just need time to read your lessons for about an hour each day. So, your goal can be to do just that!

3. Make a schedule.

In order to make your goals happen, you need a set schedule. If you have a job that has variable hours, take some time on the weekend to plan out the following week. Coordinate with your spouse or child care provider to make sure you have uninterrupted time to devote to your studies.

If your job is set, or you don’t have a job, it is still important to create a schedule. The best way to get something done is to have a dedicated time to do it.

4. Be organized.

Organization on a physical level is important too. If you keep your physical space organized, you can be more efficient. Your hour of study time shouldn’t be wasted trying to find your supplies!

5. Involve your kids.

Talk with your children about what you’re learning. Doing that can also help lessen their fear of the dentist. You can even show them the tools you are learning to use so that they become more familiar with them.

You can practice together by “treating” a stuffed animal or by playing dental games for kids.

These are a few of the many ways to make your career goals happen, while getting to spend quality time with your family. Give us a call and get your new life started!
